Pickering Village Festival

oogle "Pickering Village" on your computer and you'll discover that it's not in Pickering at all, it's in neighbouring Ajax, swallowed up in the 1970s by the formation of Durham Region. The community has retained its identity as well as its small town charm, as you'll find out if you make your way along Old Kingston Rd. next Friday and Saturday.
The local business improvement association is staging its annual Pickering Village Fall Festival and one of its main attractions will be a car show organized by the Oshawa Cruisers.
Spokesman Bud Swan said that on Saturday they expect there'll be close to 100 show quality cars and trucks lined up on both sides of Linton Ave., "in the heart of the village festival."
Swan said the show is open to all makes and models. "We don't have an age limit. There are enough shows around like that. Anyone with a special interest vehicle can come, no charge for joining us."
They expect to get everything from old street rods and custom cars to antiques and classics: "from a `26 Ford to a 2006 `Vette. It'll be a wide-ranging show."
One interesting highlight promises to be a 1951 B-Model Mack truck, with a 454 hp engine in it, customized into a pickup format.
"It's mounted on a later model Chevy `duallie' truck frame and it's really nice, really something to see," Swan said.
The first cars will make their way there on Friday to be part of Fifties Night. Music starts at 8 p.m. and goes until midnight with Freddy Vette and the Flames cranking out the '50s hits.
